Sta.sh
The purpose of this contest is to generate more attention to our emoticon gallery (if you have not noticed, we have one of the largest collection of emoticons on the internet!). First time emoticonists are encouraged to participate as it was designed with them in mind to just try it out and have fun and learn in the process! And it goes without saying that experienced emoticon, pixel and icon artists are also encouraged to join as well. It's for everyone! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
The concept is quite simple:
Create an emoticon that describes what you feel to be your favorite:
emotion (eg. sarcastic, mean, gritty)
activity (eg. skating, laying-a-smackdown), or
type of person (eg. gothic, rocker, whatchamacallit!)
And then follow these guidelines:
The emoticon must be gradient or pixel shaded (unshaded emoticons will not be looked at!);
The background must be transparent though you may have background objects if you so choose to implement them (eg. a couch, a rock, etc);
Your emoticon must be saved in .gif format;
The emoticon must be of a resonable emoticon-like size (if it looks like it's so large is messes up deviantART's layout, it's TOO big!);
The emoticon must be made from scratch and thus must not contain any parts of any emoticon in deviantART's current legend (though using current emotes for inspiration is encouraged!) and it also must not be a previously submitted emoticon of yours (if caught, your entry will be removed or will not be looked at!);
The emoticon may either be static or animated;
There are no restictions on the limit of emotes that one may enter (however, only one prize will be given per person entering no matter how many entries they submit); and
All entries must be submitted into the CONTESTS > EMOTE YOUR EMOTICON section
Entry must be submitted by April 25, 2005!
Now I know what you've been waiting for: the prizes!
1st: gets a 1 year sub + a DailyDeviation + it will become an OFFICIAL dA EMOTICON!
2nd: gets a 3 month sub + a DailyDeviation + it will become an OFFICIAL dA EMOTICON!
3rd: gets a 1 month sub + a DailyDeviation + it will become an OFFICIAL dA EMOTICON!
3 honorable mentions: get, well, an honorable mention along with a DailyDeviation each! 
Entries will be judged by overall creativity, originality and how well it represents itself as an emoticon. Contest will be collectively judged by emoticon-enthusiasts: !camelhijackation, `budgieishere, $dxd and me, `halfliquid. Any questions, post within this news article and it should be answered by anyone mentioned previously in a prompt fashion.
